16th Century Mill

Nestled in the heart of rural North Yorkshire, this exceptional project involved the complete, sympathetic renovation of a 16th century mill. Plaskitt & Plaskitt Interior Designer Lucinda worked closely with our longstanding clients- with whom she has built a trusted relationship over many years- and alongside a full team of tradespeople including site architects, joiners and electricians to guide a full, 'back to brick' restoration. Indeed, this was a collaborative project in the truest sense, with Lucinda attending weekly site meetings to ensure the smoothest possible process.

Every detail was considered, from early-stage electrical planning, to bespoke cabinetry, paint palettes and window dressings, through to the careful sourcing of finishing touches such as door hardware and light switches. Lucinda painstakingly pieced together each design scheme to ensure the mill's historic character was preserved and celebrated, while offering the modern comfort her clients were seeking.

The design brief was to create a warm, welcoming home, with a palette of delicate neutrals and subtle greens, reflected throughout bespoke furniture and upholstery choices and carefully curated soft furnishings. Texture and material choice was particularly important within the design schemes to ensure each piece added value, interest and depth.

In addition to the main house, Lucinda and our wider team oversaw the transformation of the stone-built outbuildings in the grounds of the mill, assisting in conversion of these into a charming holiday cottage and a versatile bothy space. Lucinda continues to work with the owners on the next phase: the creation of a new office and garage complex that complements the character of the estate.

This project is a true reflection of the value of collaboration, attention to detail and a shared vision for creating homes that are both timeless and deeply personal.
