"Working with my clients from the other side of the world was a unique challenge, but also a real privilege. With just one meeting in person throughout the project, I was entrusted with every detail of their new home.

It was incredibly rewarding to see their vision come to life through a rich, colourful and characterful scheme, creating a home that felt personal to them and was ready to welcome them back to the UK."

Detached Townhouse

Recently completed for clients returning to the UK after several years living overseas, this extensive project involved the complete redevelopment and interior design of a relatively modern detached townhouse. Although built in a traditional period style, the house lacked the character and charm suggested by its frontage, while the existing layout no longer suited the needs of the family.

Interior Designer Claire worked closely with Woodstone 1 Construction, and an extensive team of local trades to completely reimagine the property.

Arranged over three floors, the house now provides a carefully considered series of spaces for family life. A luxurious master suite with dressing room and ensuite sits alongside two further guest bedrooms, each with their own ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. Up in the eaves, the second floor has been transformed into a dedicated children's level, with two bedrooms, bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes and a games room-come-snug.

The project presented a unique challenge in that Claire met the clients in person just once during the year-long redesign. Living in South East Asia, they entrusted her to oversee every aspect remotely, with sample boxes sent across the world for approval via email, WhatsApp and Zoom. From tile combinations, paint colours and wallpapers to lighting, hardware, furniture, rugs and window dressings, every detail was carefully specified and approved before being ordered and installed.

The clients were keen to create a home filled with colour and personality, and Claire developed a rich, vibrant palette of warm terracotta, greens and blues, complemented by bold wallpaper choices and layered patterns and textures. The master suite was conceived as a luxurious retreat with the feel of a boutique hotel, while the wider home was designed to feel distinctive and deeply personal to the family.

With a fixed completion date dictated by the clients' return to the UK, careful coordination of the many trades was essential to ensure the house was ready for them to move straight in.

Unusually, we have photographed the project at the 'turn-key' stage, before the clients have had the opportunity to layer the spaces with their own belongings. It is a beautifully finished canvas awaiting the final layer of personality and arrival of the clients’ belongings from overseas. We look forward to returning once the landscaping is complete and the clients have had time to settle in and enjoy their new home.

This project is a wonderful example of how trust, collaboration and thoughtful design can transform a house into a truly personal family home.
